Whichever method you use, you then simply enter the text you want to use for your footnote. If the Footnote area doesn’t show, go to the References tab and click Show Notes. In Draft view, the mark will appear in a separate area at the bottom of the Word window. In Print Layout view, the footnote reference mark that accompanies the text will appear at the bottom of the page. The footnote will appear differently in the document depending on the view you are using. If this is the first footnote, the number 1 will be placed by default at the insertion point and at the beginning of the footnote text. There are two ways to place a footnote reference mark: press CTRL-ALT-F or go to the References tab on the Ribbon and click the Insert Footnote button.
